Courage Connection Presents Courage on the Block: A Free Community Celebration Honoring Survivors of Domestic Violence

Courage Connection is excited to announce the return of Courage on the Block, our signature Domestic Violence Awareness Month event celebrating survivors, their resilience, and the strength of our community. This free community celebration will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 12 PM to 3 PM at The Yard on Broadway, 401 N. Broadway Ave., Urbana, IL.

Courage on the Block is a free, family-friendly celebration that brings neighbors together for an afternoon of joy, connection, and solidarity. Attendees can enjoy food, music, games, and opportunities to connect in a welcoming and uplifting environment.

Festivities will include:

  • Guest speakers and survivor testimonials, featuring remarks from Champaign City Manager Joan Walls, Urbana Chief of Police Larry D. Boone, Pixels by Emily owner Emily Donohoe, and courageous local survivors of domestic violence
  • Live music and good vibes from the Darker Than Blue DJ Collective
  • Complimentary meals for all attendees, with food stipends available at the door and provided by participating local restaurants, including Smith Burger Co., Watson’s Shack and Rail, Fernando’s Tacos & More, Regal Pig Social, Columbia St. Café, The Main Scoop, and Public House 1833
  • A children’s play area featuring games and family-friendly activities
  • A free community raffle entry with special prizes

Additional food and beverage options will also be available for purchase from participating restaurants inside the venue.

More than just a day of celebration, Courage on the Block is an opportunity for our community to come together in support of survivors of domestic violence. The event honors the courage and resilience of survivors while creating space for connection, joy, and hope. It also serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to build a community where everyone can experience safe, healthy relationships.
