Advocate Coordinator

(FULL TIME)

 

Courage Connection provides housing and supportive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and who are victims of domestic violence. We are currently hiring for the position of Advocate Coordinator:

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure the program provides excellent and consistent services. Ensure the shelter provides compassionate 24/7 coverage according the agency policies.

 

  • Supervise Client Advocates
  • Create, maintain and manage the Client Advocate Schedule
  • Scheduling of DV hotline shifts; cover the hotline as scheduled and as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Facilitate and attend staff meetings.
  • Responsible for the oversight and upkeep of the shelter office
  • Ensure that eligibility and services are provided appropriately
  • Provide direct service to clients
  • Engage in activities to increase public awareness and education related to the issues of domestic violence and homelessness
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Minimum of two years of experience in social services. Supervisory, administrative and team development experience. Experience supervising, hiring, mentoring, training and disciplining employees.

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with clients, staff, and community partners
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practice
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

 

Hourly wage:  $15.63/hr

  SHELTER COORDINATOR

Full-time

We are currently hiring for the full-time position of Shelter Coordinator:

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures
  2. Complete all required program forms
  3. Respond to client needs
  4. Organize, maintain and order shelter and office supplies
  5. Manage and maintain shelter resources such as food pantries, storage areas and donation items
  6. Assist in the coordination and preparation of holiday events on weekends
  7. Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and trainings
  8. Perform other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two to three years of professional experience in the homelessness field
  2. Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in social work or related field
  3. Effective time management and communication skills. Includes speaking, listening, and writing in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
  4. Proficient use of computers, Microsoft Office and any other database software(s) used to track

service delivery

  1. Strong ability to effectively resolve and cope with immediate crisis situations
  2. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  3. Proven ability to work independently, effectively as an individual and part of a team
  4. Successful completion of background screening
  5. Valid driver’s license

 

Hourly wage:  $14.43/hr

SALES ASSOCIATE

(PART-TIME) 

Connection’s Resale Store in Lincoln Square Mall is the go-to place to find great clothing and household items at incredibly affordable prices.

 

We are actively building a hardworking, dependable and fun-to-work-with team. Common sense, strong initiative, pride in your work, and an eye for detail is a must. The ability to lift and shift boxes of donations and piles of clothing is required. An appreciation for apparel, home goods and a great deal is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Processing inventory and donations
  2. Maintaining a positive and professional sales environment
  3. Processing sales, running a cash register, and running credit card machines
  4. Opening/closing the store with daily reconciliation of sales and deposit of receipts
  5. Maintaining the store in a clean, neat, and attractive condition
  6. Greeting and assisting customers
  7. Working hard and having fun

Qualifications:

  1. Have a high school diploma or GED
  2. Be available and consistently willing to work Saturdays
  3. Be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  4. Be prepared to stand for long periods of time
  5. Be prepared to walk around for long periods of time
  6. Work independently while staying motivated and following directions
  7. Have excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with customers
  8. Have excellent organizational skills, teamwork, initiative, and life skills
  9. Have basic math skills
  10. Be proficient with a PC and Microsoft applications

Hourly wage:  $8.75/hour

CLIENT ADVOCATE

( PART-TIME)

We are currently looking to fill the position of Client Advocate with the most qualified applicant to help us carry out our organizational mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide supportive services on a weekly basis, or more often as needed, to clients in the form of advocacy, counseling, budgeting, housing assistance and short and long-range goal planning;
  • Document client meetings and groups
  • Maintain client files to meet agency and funder requirements
  • Provide appropriate support to other clients as needed
  • Cover the agency phone or hotline; be flexible to ensure that the phones are always covered
  • Coordinate service and safety plans with other direct service staff
  • Make client referrals and network with appropriate agencies
  • Participate in community activities and resource building opportunities with clients and for the agency
  • Other duties as assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS:
