Clothesline Project at Parkland College
10am – 2pm in Student Union at Parkland
Clothesline Projects all over the world remind people of the real meaning of violence statistics that are often ignored. It originated in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1990 when a member of the Cape Cod’s Women’s Defense Agenda learned that during the same time 58,000 soldiers were killed in the Vietnam War, 51,000 U.S. women were killed by the men who claimed to love them. The Clothesline Project provides impactful awareness to domestic violence, and sexual violence. It is a visual reminder of statistics that we often ignore.
The T shirt art will be created on site with messages of support and remembrance of Domestic Violence survivors and victims. Students and staff will create T shirts at Parkland that will then hang on display in the Student Center, Gallery Lounge and D-Wing for the month of October beginning October 6th.
The Clothesline Project will also be created and displayed in Lincoln Square, Urbana beginning October 6th. See Connections 10th Anniversary event for details.
