CHAMPAIGN — Courage Connection has exceeded its goal of raising $350,000 to help fill a funding gap caused by the state budget impasse.

In 10 weeks, hundreds of donations from organizations, businesses, churches and individuals raised $390,991, allowing Courage Connection to continue serving victims and survivors of domestic violence, the agency said.

Current and former board members and the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana issued a $50,000 Match for Courage challenge to help close the gap in the final days of the fundraising campaign, and the challenge was met by a group called the $5,000 Project to save Courage Connection, according to the agency.Fundraising efforts covered expenses incurred in fiscal year 2017, which ended June 30.

Courage Connection said its funding challenges aren’t over since the state budget crisis remains, but Executive Director Isak Griffiths is hopeful about its future.
